Few weekends ago I had the pleasure of attending a training day for aesthetic trainers on the use of HarmonyCa® organised by Interface Aesthetics. Director Mr James Olding who is a friend, colleague and faculty with Allergan Medical Institute gave us trainers all a wonderful introduction to it. We then had some hands-on opportunities to use this product! Let me share what I learnt from that day!
HarmonyCa® is a hybrid injectable consisting of hyaluronic acid (HA) and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA). It is categorised as a biostimulator designed to provide patients with a smooth, natural-looking appearance by restoring volume to areas of the face that have lost elasticity and fullness due to the natural ageing process.
The main ingredient in HarmonyCa® is hyaluronic acid, a substance that is naturally found in the body and plays a crucial role in maintaining skin hydration and elasticity. When injected into the skin, HarmonyCa® helps to restore lost volume and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, leaving patients with a youthful, refreshed appearance.
The other ingredient is calcium hydroxyapatite, it is used to restore volume to the face and fill in wrinkles and fine lines. It is made up of tiny particles of a mineral-like substance that is naturally found in the body, primarily in bone tissue. When injected into the skin, the calcium hydroxyapatite particles stimulate the production of collagen, a protein that gives the skin its elasticity and firmness. This helps to create a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance.
Where is HarmonyCa® injected?
It is usually injected in a C-shape along the lateral portion of the zygomatic arch, down preauricular to angle of mandible and forward along the lower mandibular border. If appropriate, the subzygomatic space can also be filled. This is all predominantly done using the 22G cannula technique.
I took away five potential benefits of HarmonyCa®:
Restores lost volume: As we age, our skin naturally loses elasticity and fullness, resulting in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. HarmonyCa® can help to restore lost volume to the face, filling in wrinkles and giving the skin a smoother, more youthful appearance.
Long-lasting results: Unlike some other dermal fillers, HarmonyCa® is known for its long-lasting results. Many patients can enjoy the benefits of the treatment for up to 18 months before needing additional treatments.
Quick and relatively painless: The treatment process for HarmonyCa® is quick and typically causes little to no discomfort. Most patients can return to their regular activities immediately following the procedure.
Customisable results: HarmonyCa® is available in different formulations, allowing healthcare providers to customise the treatment to meet the specific needs and goals of each patient.
Non-surgical: HarmonyCa® is a non-surgical solution to the signs of ageing, making it a popular choice for patients who want to avoid more invasive procedures such as facelifts. It can provide natural-looking results without the need for extensive recovery time or scarring.
Overall, HarmonyCa® is a safe and effective biostimulator that offers patients a natural-looking solution to the signs of ageing. As with any aesthetics procedure, it is important to consult with a qualified and experienced healthcare provider to determine if HarmonyCa® is right for you. I’ll definitely be looking to incorporate this into my clinical practice!
