Everyone wants to have radiant, healthy skin for as long as possible. But the passage of time, over-exposure to the elements or even genetics can leave you with tired and dull-looking skin. Profhilo® can help.

This injectable skin remodelling treatment, available in UK clinics signed up to the Safe Aesthetic Practitioner (SafeAP) app, can rejuvenate your face, neck and hands, and that’s just the start.

Profhilo® is a two-session, non-surgical treatment administered by a medical professional. The recovery time can be reduced to a few hours, while the results can last for around six months.

Are you ready to have firm and luminous skin? Download our app here and find your nearest practitioner offering Profhilo® hyaluronic acid moisturising treatment.

What does Profhilo® do?

Profhilo® skin remodelling treatment has one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body, to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.

It hydrates and improves skin elasticity, rather than just filling out existing skin. The result is fresher, younger-looking skin, with fine lines and wrinkles appearing reduced, while you get an overall healthy-looking skin tone.

In contrast, a dermal filler is injected into the skin at various depths to help fill in wrinkles, boost skin volume and, in some cases, augment facial features.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a key molecule involved in skin moisture, thanks to its unique hydrophilic ability to draw and retain water.

Although the full science behind skin ageing is not yet fully understood, the beauty and wellness industries have long known about the benefits of HA for hydrating and replenishing our lacklustre skin.

Who needs Profhilo® treatment?

From the age of around 25, our bodies begin to produce less collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. There are other reasons why our skin quality may change too, from diet and lifestyle to ageing or illness.

They can all have negative impacts, some of which go beyond our skin’s surface, resulting in the following symptoms:

  • skin that lacks elasticity
  • thin skin, with no plumpness
  • crepey skin
  • lines and wrinkles
  • dehydrated or sun-damaged skin
  • signs of ageing skin

For some people, sagging or lacklustre skin can do little for their self-confidence.

However, after two treatment sessions of Profhilo®, you can reverse that effect and instead embrace your gorgeous skin glow.

The benefits of Profhilo® injections

Because Profhilo® contains one of the market’s highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid. Its effects on dermal cells can be both swift and deep-rooted.

Boost skin laxity with collagen and elastin production

Profhilo®’s HA is a great way to effectively treat skin laxity. It stimulates the production of new cells, as well as better quality elastin, giving skin a fuller, more supple appearance.

It also supports the production of four types of collagen, which helps plump out areas where skin lacks volume.

Rehydration, rehydration, rehydration

Profhilo® injections act by slowly releasing hyaluronic acid, drawing and retaining water, efficiently rehydrating even the driest or most dull looking skin.

A lifting, tightening skin booster

You don’t just get intense hydration and a gorgeous skin glow from the Profhilo® injectable skin remodelling treatment.

As you might expect from all that extra water, as well as collagen and elastin, sagging skin is also left looking firmer and visibly lifted.

Better skin tone and texture

Another great benefit of Profhilo® injectable hyaluronic acid is its ability to improve skin tone and overall skin quality, as well as smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

Radiance restored

As the production of collagen increases thanks to Profhilo®, and the skin’s hydration improves, it goes from saggy and crepey, to firmer, more luminous skin.

Profhilo® doesn’t just make a pretty face...

As if getting fresher, tighter skin on your face wasn’t enough of an advantage, Profhilo® is suitable for use elsewhere on the body.

It’s great for skin tightening on the neck and decolletage, and Profhilo® treatments are also good for arms and hands.

It can also help treat skin laxity on the knees, as well as the abdomen area. Sign up to our app and find out which UK clinics can help.

Profhilo® breaks down naturally

Profhilo® is a non-surgical treatment, but it is also broken down naturally by an enzyme in our bodies called hyaluronidase.

Because our body recognises natural hyaluronic acid, it knows how to break it down without causing physical disruption.

What does Profhilo® treatment involve?

The vast majority of people undergoing Profhilo® injectable treatments require just two 30-minute sessions, four weeks apart. In patients with more advanced skin ageing, a clinical professional may recommend three sessions.

Before Profhilo® treatment

Once you have found a clinic and Profhilo® treatment plan you’re happy with via our app, they should inform you of how best to prepare for the sessions.

As well as ensuring you are not pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breastfeeding, and informing your clinic about any medications or dietary supplements you are taking, they also advise patients to avoid the following before the treatment:

  • refrain from taking Ibuprofen for at least a day
  • refrain from taking blood thinners for at least a day (to be discussed with practitioner beforehand)
  • refrain from alcohol after treatment
  • refrain for up to seven days from taking supplements including: St John's Wort, fish oils, garlic, Ginkgo Biloba, and vitamins A-E

Patients should arrive make-up free on the day of their Profhilo® treatment, and apply no make-up for 24 hours to reduce the risk of infection or irritation at the injection sites.

It’s worth noting that if you are prone to cold sores you should also let your clinic know.

The Profhilo® treatment session and injection procedure

If you are focusing on your face, each session involves injecting the Profhilo® treatment into five key points under the skin’s surface, using ultra-fine needles:

  • either side of the cheeks
  • nasolabial folds
  • laughter lines
  • chin and perioral lines
  • along the jawline

Profhilo® can also be used for treating skin laxity around the neck, as well as elbows, knees and abdomen. Many patients find there is little or no discomfort, as the needles used to inject Profhilo®  are very fine.

Once the Profhilo® injections have been delivered, the hyaluronic acid (HA) disperses quickly beneath the skin.

How does Profhilo® work? It will begin stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, filling wrinkles and eventually leading to plumper, refreshed and tightened skin.

Recovery time after each Profhilo® session

Everyone responds differently to the Profhilo® injectable treatment but for many patients, their skin begins to recover within hours.

There can be the risk of slight bruising, possible mild swelling at the injection site, but in most cases these fade within one to two hours.

In the 24-hours after treatment, you should be advised to avoid vigorous exercise, alcohol, wearing any make-up or taking Ibuprofen.

For seven days after the two treatments of Profhilo®, stay away from extreme temperatures - avoid intense sun, for example.

The final results of Profhilo®

While some patients notice smoother skin immediately after their first Profhilo® treatment, they definitely see a difference after the second treatment.

Over the course of four weeks, the slow release of hyaluronic acid from Profhilo® has been hard at work. Its prolonged, stimulating activity, to improve hydration and boost collagen and elastin production, can lead to impressive anti ageing results:

  • enhanced skin tone
  • improved skin glow
  • firm and luminous skin
  • fine lines disappear

How long do the effects of Profhilo® last?

The specially formulated Profhilo® injectable treatment will improve hydration in your skin and sagging tissue, giving it a firmer appearance, as well as stimulating collagen and elastin.

Although you will see visible results in two weeks, the slow-release nature of the HA means those tell-tale signs of ageing, whether it's on facial areas or elsewhere, can be kept at bay for up to six months.

To maintain the intense hydration offered by Profhilo®, you can repeat the two treatments twice a year.

This can vary from person to person, depending on several factors, including how many treatments they have had previously, and whether they cannot avoid intense sun as part of their lifestyle, for example.

Are there any age limits or side effects from Profhilo® ?

The great news is, Profhilo® is suitable for adults of all ages with all skin types.

Even though every patient is different, the side effects can be limited too. Profhilo® disperses quickly beneath the skin, getting to work filling wrinkles and hydrating your skin. However, you may feel a sensation of heaviness in or around where the injectable treatments were placed for around seven days after each session.

If this is the first time you have had Profhilo®, you should be contacted by your chosen clinic two weeks after the first session, and again after the second treatment.

This allows time for the Profhilo® work to get started, so a thorough assessment can be made. It could be that a small adjustment may be needed to achieve perfect results.

Botox vs Profhilo®

Many people compare Profhilo® to other non surgical aesthetic treatments, such as Botox®. Neither are considered to be dermal fillers and both are injectable treatments, but they work in very different ways.

What does a Profhilo® treatment involve?

As we have seen, patients can reduce fine lines and achieve skin tightening results using the Profhilo® injectable skin remodelling treatment.

We know the hyaluronic acid Profhilo® contains boosts the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, reducing fine lines and giving users luminous skin by providing long-lasting hydration.

Profhilo® is perfect for overall skin rejuvenation in the facial areas, neck and places on the body where skin lacks volume.

What does Botox® involve?

In contrast, Botox® is more commonly used to target dynamic wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. It works by blocking the nerve signals to muscles, effectively paralysing them.

Users often notice smoother skin or tighter skin, with fewer fine lines but at three to four months, the effect is shorter-lasting than Profhilo®.

How much does Profhilo® treatment cost?

As always, please discuss any risks during consultation with your qualified practitioner before receiving any treatment.
